Micro Septics: Environmental Microbiology Testing Laboratory
Classical microbiology is the art of making visible the invisible and characterizing it using whatever means at your disposal from the kitchen cupboard to the workshop. Microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, viruses) are inordinately large in numbers and ridiculously small in scale. They are also very old: ancient enough to have seen/been the beginning of life on Planet Earth. Metabolically, microorganisms are capable of everything we are capable of and far more. In contrast, classical microbiology techniques (mainly culture and microscopy) are rather simple and relatively few, with results that are generally easy to read.
Micro Septics is a space where microbiologist Michelle Poilly can apply these techniques to provide clear answers. She can tell you if your water is safe, if your food contact surfaces are clean, if you really need an expensive HVAC system in your school/daycare/senior home – which rooms need it; which rooms don't; whether other cleaning methods can be used instead. She can show you how to take proper samples at the right location knowing that the result is only as good as the sample. In essence, she can help refine the questions around contamination and cleanliness that arise from particular situations using intelligent testing: low technology, high skill. It is a cheaper option than less targeted, high technology solutions and it provides the knowledge of what, where, why you should test. "Knowledge is power; seeing is believing. Micro Septics is simply a small establishment in the church of knowledge that all teaching facilities belong to: a place where knowledge can be shared, can grow and can be applied effectively."
